Lake Image Systems launches Discovery Suite, a fully integrated approach to manage complex variable data and print quality issues

Lake Image Systems, the worldwide leader in vision control and verification systems, has today announced the Discovery suite of products which represents a significant advance in its product portfolio.
Discovery Suite is comprised of three key products; Discovery Multiscan, (the latest development release of the original IntegraVision product), Discovery PQ (which provides a comprehensive print quality product) and Discovery Enterprise which is a comprehensive server-based database engine.

Demonstrated at IPEX will be a range of Discovery systems for integrity verification of direct and transactional mail processing on a full mail production inserting line, real time barcode grading, print quality inspection with variable data verification capabilities, and full colour web inspection.
A major new development for Discovery Multiscan is the use of multi-threading technology. This provides significant performance improvements, enabling variable print data reading in excess of over 25,000 characters per second - the equivalent of reading the Bible in just over two minutes. Lake Image believes it is offering the world’s first production integrity use of this technology which will ensure a quantum leap in reading speeds where variable data can be decoded as fast as it is presented to a camera. In addition, Discovery Multiscan offers Image Alignment and Flat Field image correction tools which are also flagged as significant developments, providing enhanced system performance for more complex applications where read accuracy and consistency are critical. The product also includes real time Barcode Grading capability to international standards and multiple area variable inspection, increasing production inspection speeds and reduced make ready times.
Discovery PQ is a development of Lake Image’s earlier product and provides full, real time colour print inspection of every page or print image. The system features a separate high resolution screen for web viewing, and defect roll mapping for physical correction at a later point in the production process. In addition, Discovery PQ uses ‘golden template’ inspection techniques, comparing each print element to an ideal image. The product is primarily aimed at commercial printers and label manufacturers requiring consistent repeatability, e.g. pharmaceutical, medical, and food packaging. The system uses high-resolution linescan camera technology to image 100 per cent of the print produced, at speeds in excess of 1000 feet per minute, thus ensuring acceptable print quality throughout the run.
Thirdly, Discovery Enterprise is a vendor independent server-based tool for data gathering from any printer, mailer, inserter or piece of finishing equipment. Enterprise can report on mixed page and piece level integrity and provide full audit trail via HTTP format for intranet for web dissemination and is multi-site compatible. As with the entire product range, Enterprise has an exceptionally user-friendly operator interface which ensures quick training and popularity with operators.
